Micro Motors

Known for their small size, micro motors are an important solution for systems and devices with space limitations. While they're portable and lightweight, they offer the same power and performance as a standard-sized motor. Micro motors provide power for many types of goods, from robotics and industrial equipment to handheld or battery-powered items like smartphones. These compact motors can also power medical devices, reliably supplying energy for life-saving healthcare tools. Our micro models feature low starting voltage and current consumption.

How Micro Motors Work

The coils within micro motors contain electrically energized conductors that produce magnetic fields. The forces of attraction and repulsion from these fields affect the permanent magnets within, spurring rotational rotor movement through targeted magnetic field alterations. These alterations are the result of commutation, which involves redirecting current flow from one coil segment to another. As the rotor spins, it powers the drive's central axis. Linear micro motors, however, are one exception. They feature a magnet and coil design that results in linear movement when the magnetic fields experience modifications.

BLDC Motors

Brushless direct current (BLDC) motors draw power from a DC electric source. Unique for the lack of brushes in their design, efficient BLDC motors minimize maintenance concerns and provide high torque density along with precise control over positioning and speed. Due to these characteristics, these motors are applicable in everything from air conditioners and appliances to CNC machines and robotic equipment.

How BLDC Motors Work

While typical DC motors need sliding contacts to transmit current, BLDC motors have an inverse design and use electronic commutation to supply current. In BLDC motors, a copper wire coil and magnets serve as the stator and rotor, respectively. Control electronics manage electric current flow to generate a magnetic field traveling in a circular direction, resulting in the turning of the magnetic rotor.

With three phases of winding, both slotless and slotted BLDC models are electronically commutated. The cylindrically shaped ironless coil within slotless electric BLDC motors utilizes the same winding method as ironless DC models. Alternately, slotted BLDC motors contain stators with advanced windings and lamination technology.

AC Motors

An alternating current (AC) motor is a type of electric motor that takes alternating current and transforms it into mechanical energy. Applications for these motors span industries, from appliances, HVAC systems, and space heaters or fans to healthcare devices, industrial equipment, and conveyance systems. At Pelonis Technologies, we develop our high-performance AC motors for durability and energy efficiency. Our company provides quality AC shaded pole induction motors in stack sizes ranging from 10 to 60 mm and 120 to 230 V.

How AC Motors Work

When alternating current passes through the coils of an AC motor, it creates rotating magnetic fields that exert force to generate mechanical power. The most important components within an AC motor are its rotor and stator. The rotor is attached to the motor's shaft, balanced on its housing overtop bearings. The stator, which remains stationary, is essentially the motor's core. It's made up of multiple thin lamination layers surrounded by insulated wire. It features slots containing the motor's windings, or conductors, that carry AC current. The insulation on these components eliminates the chance of short circuits.

Pancake Motors

Brushed pancake motors, also known as printed armature motors, are specialized DC motors recognized for their flat, round design. These motors are characterized by their compact size, making them suitable for applications with limited space and where high torque is needed. They feature a printed armature, rare earth magnets for low-temperature operations, and custom shaft and housing configurations. Available in various sizes, these motors are adaptable for high-torque, low-velocity tasks. Common applications include CNC machinery, medical equipment, agricultural tools, and HVAC systems. Pancake motors are especially useful in fields requiring precise motion control and compact installations.
