At Pelonis Technologies, Inc. (PTI), we specialize in developing and manufacturing innovative industrial and commercial products relating to heating, cooling, and motion control. We offer an array of energy-efficient AC, BLDC, micro, and pancake motors to support client applications in industries ranging from HVAC to healthcare.

Our GN Series of brushed pancake motors, the High-Precision Slim Series, encompasses a selection of high-accuracy, high-power motors. These motors are the flattest we supply, with an axial thickness that's one-third of our GM Series. Read on to learn more about our GN Series, the motor features of this product line, and common uses for diverse industries.

Features & Specifications of the GN Series

Also referred to as servodisc, axial flux, or printed armature motors, brushed pancake motors are named for their round and flat appearance. Each motor features a stator with a permanent magnet. The magnet surrounds an armature printed with coil windings and a commutator.

Carbon or graphite brushes on the armature serve to send the coil DC current, which runs radially from the center to the edge of the armature and perpendicular to the axial magnetic field. It's the force this process creates that produces the necessary torque to generate motor movement.

Our GN Series line of brushed pancake motors consists of four ranges and three sizes. The GN9, GN12, and GN16 motors have armature diameters of 9cm, 12cm, and 16cm, respectively. Regardless of size, each of these motors features the following:

  • DC brushed design
  • Super-flat construction (Slim Series motors)
  • Printed armature
  • NdFeB magnets
  • Ironless core for ultra-low velocity ripple, zero cogging, and smooth running
  • Custom shaft and housing configuration availability
  • Low-resistance, parallel winding (designated LR) configuration availability
  • Tachometer, encoder, gearbox, and brake option availability
  • Motor kit availability

By incorporating rare Earth NdFeB magnets into these brushed pancake motors, they're capable of operating in environments with ambient temperatures as low as -20°C. Our GN Series motors are designed to handle high-performance industrial applications.

Applications

Our brushed pancake motors are ideally suited to high-speed, low-voltage or -battery applications. They're compatible with various servo applications because of their responsiveness and precision control capabilities, all in a compact motor. Also, they're a suitable replacement for PMI Kollmorgen's older servo motors in the N- and KN-series.

The many uses for these versatile motors include, but are not limited to:

  • Agricultural equipment
  • CNC machine equipment
  • Flight simulators
  • High-temperature ventilation equipment
  • Industrial robotics and automation
  • Marine autopilot systems
  • Medical mobility devices
  • Medical scanners
  • Motion control systems and devices
  • Printing machinery
  • Servo mechanisms
  • Test and measurement applications
  • Vehicle systems
